Danny Gans, playing inside the Danny Gans Theatre, at the Mirage Hotel and Casino is a wonderful show. It is one of the best shows in Las Vegas. Gans is so incredibly talented, the hour and forty minute show seems to fly by, and it is solely Gans and his band. His singing and acting abilities augment his impersonations beautifully. It is simply an amazing and wonderful show.
In just over four years, Danny Gans has worked his way from the Stratosphere, to the Rio, to his own showroom inside the Mirage with a long term contract. This amazing rise through the ranks of these showrooms on the Strip has only been possible because of his recognized and incredible talent. Gans has received many accolades–”Best Performer,” “Best Headliner,” and “Best Show in Las Vegas.” Having once again seen his show, I would, for the most part, have to agree with these awards.
There are many good shows in Vegas. What separates Gans from the rest of them is the utter simplicity of his show. There is no spectacle. There are no special effects, no chorus, no dancing girls. It is just him and his band. It is with his talent and abilities that he captures our attention and focuses our concentration on him, and him alone. He make us laugh and cry with his mix of comedy and sentimentality. He is as good at singing as he is at acting, and amazingly enough, he does his female voices as well as his male voices.
The show starts off with incredible energy. The quick paced montage of characters fly by so fast that it is overwhelming. Part way through the show you feel exhausted from having absorbed so much. The only problem with the show is that sometimes you just need a chance to catch your breath.
Gans show abounds with many wonderful impressions–Natalie and Nat King Cole singing a duet, Jimmy Stewart and Kermit the Frog singing a duet, Al Pacino’s monologue from “Scent of a Woman;” but my absolute favorite is his George Burns. Gans’, Burns is sweet, funny and sentimental.
The Danny Gans theatre is a nice space for the show. It is not really a fancy theatre. It doesn’t have a lot of adornments. The stage is small. The lighting is fair. The theatre seating is comfortable, but most of all, the theatre serves the show well. There is no need for a large stage or an abundance of lighting. It is a good theatre for the show, and the audience is comfortable, and they can see and hear well.
Danny Gans is an amazing performer and has earned the praise and awards that have been bestowed upon him. He works hard and puts on a great show.
